Karol Gruszka is a journalist and producer of the Silesion.pl portal, a fan of new media and technologies. In his work he seeks to show that for traditional journalism, new media are not a threat but an opportunity. For their work, he and Maria Zawała received awards in the nationwide competitions ArtFront 2015, for the interactive documentary "Pokłady pamięci" ("Layers of Memory") and a distinction in the National Krystyna Bochenek Competition for the interactive reportage "Śląsk za szybami" ("Silesia Behind the Mines"). In 2014 he and Zawała received the Grand Press Digital prize on behalf of Dziennik Zachodni, which the newspaper won for projects including interactive reportage. Gruszka has spoken at many media conferences including the Lviv Media Forum, Digital Journalism Days and StoryCode Warsaw.
